Tea Tree plants (The botanical name Melaleuca alternifolia) are species of tree or tall shrub native to warmer regions of Australia. It is an excellent plant to have around the house, as it provides a useful home remedy for a number of skin complaints. It is also attractive and fragrant, looks exotic because of its trunk, that has gorgeous, papery bark. Its leaves are smooth, soft, and linear in shape. Leaves are arranged alternately, sometimes scattered or whorled. Australian tea tree plants grow well in full and partial sunlight. It prefers most soil types, fast-draining sandy or loamy, somewhat acidic soil. It requires deep watering on the stage of growth and less when the plant is well established.
