Agapanthus (also known as African Lily) is a summer flowering perennial plant species. It is best known for its beautiful funnel-shaped flowers come in shades of blue and purple mainly. Some of its species also produce white and pink flowers. It generally blooms in summer. Their leaves are of dark green color and come in shape of basal, curve or linear. Leaves appearance is quite leathery and structured in two opposite rows on the stem. Agapanthus can reach from 15 inches to 5 feet in height and 12 to 24 inches in spread. Some species of Agapanthus are commonly known as lily of the Nile. Most of the species are native to Southern Africa. Agapanthus grows perfectly in a moderately fertile soil. It also requires a warm, shaded position in full sun for most of the day and adequate watering for the soil to be well moistured.
